The Location

Captured along the Potomac River in Maryland. The tidal marshes of the Chesapeake Bay are among the most productive ecosystems on the Atlantic coast. These grasses — Spartina, Phragmites, and cordgrass — filter the Bay's waters, shelter juvenile fish and crabs, and define the shoreline that has sustained watermen and wildlife for centuries.

Artist's Perspective

"I wanted to shoot into the sun — not the landscape, but the light itself. The marsh grass became a silhouette, and the sun became a glowing orb behind it. The bokeh turned the entire background into pure warmth. This is the Chesapeake at its most meditative." — Ryan Lott
