The Location

Potomac River is pictured here as viewed from Tall Timbers. The Potomac River forms the southern boundary of Maryland's western shore, where the watershed opens to the full force of Chesapeake weather. These shores see some of the most dramatic storm systems on the East Coast, where summer thunderstorms build over the Virginia shoreline and march across the open water.

Artist's Perspective

"The color in this sky was already surreal before the lightning started. That blue-to-pink gradient during twilight only lasts about fifteen minutes, and the storm arrived at exactly the right moment. Multiple bolts in a single frame during that color window — I knew immediately this was something I'd never repeat." — Ryan Lott
